There are a number of behavior management philosophies but the two we use most in our classroom are Conscious Discipline and BIST.
Conscious Discipline
Conscious Discipline is a method of behavior management that teaches children how to identify their feelings and take control of them by learning techniques for self-regulation. Conscious Discipline For Parents
Part of conscious discipline is having students set behavior goals for themselves. During the day, if it seems as though a student needs to focus on a goal, I will encourage the student to choose a goal and focus on that one particular behavior to improve. Goals can include: raising hand to speak, staying in their chair, voices off when asked, safe hands and feet, eyes on the teacher, staying on task etc.
BIST
BIST is the districts adopted behavior management system. It is designed to giving responsibility and accountability to students. For more information on BIST check out the website below.
